Great first in Mauritius! The young South-African, Christo Coetzer will attempt a ride around the island in a monocycle from 19 to December 29.

This event coincides perfectly with the commitment entered into by the office of tourism to make the island a cyclist and environment friendly destination. This step also fits in the will of the authorities to develop the player side of Mauritius and to leave the purely balneal image. The project will make it possible for the MTPA to generate images of lesser known products thus making it possible to emphasize another aspect of Mauritius.

The bicycle is known to be a creator of social bond and it is the most environmental friendly means of transport.

Proof will be made during this ride around the island, that the destination is far more than a voyage but also a rendezvous. Indeed, throughout the track of 9 stages Christo Coetzer will take time to stop at precise points in villages to meet and interact with the inhabitants. Those who will go and meet him will without any doubt promote the legendary hospitality of Mauritius.

Thanks to the efforts of Christo Coetzer, the destination will have a consequent international visibility not only in South Africa, but also around the world with a very vast media cover of the televisions, radios and South-African newspapers. A book by Christo Coetzer will appear in the near future and should encourage bicycle lovers to discover the sports and adventurous side of Mauritius.
